Introduction
VirtualPF is retired and is no longer maintained. ICT Shift no longer offers VirtualPF downloads, updates or project support. This page preserves the project’s history; it is not a recommendation to deploy the old firewall software. Originally announced in 2014, VirtualPF was an open-source firewall designed to run on virtualization platforms without dedicated firewall hardware.
Why VirtualPF?
- Virtualization‑first design: Runs as a VM, saving hardware resources.
- Full clustering support: Built with high‑availability (HA) environments in mind.
- Re‑coded CARP: Modified to function seamlessly across all virtualization platforms.
Key Features
- 100% open source and free to use
- Cluster functionality for enterprise‑grade reliability
- Responsive HTML5 GUI (tablet‑ready in beta, fully responsive in stable release)
- Planned multi‑language support: Chinese, Dutch, German, and possibly Spanish
Roadmap
- Beta release: Tablet‑optimized GUI, limited responsiveness
- Stable release (planned within a month):
- Full responsive design
- Multi‑language support
- Enhanced usability for global teams
About the Project
VirtualPF was founded by Angelo Rietdijk, Marco Tiggelaar and Trevor Robinson. Its work on virtual firewalls, high-availability clustering and intrusion prevention forms part of the team’s open-source history. Marco Tiggelaar also founded Key4ce, now ICT Shift. The features and roadmap above describe the historical project, not a currently supported product.
Conclusion
The VirtualPF website has been retired. Its old documentation, download and account endpoints are no longer public services. For current infrastructure protection, see ICT Shift’s security and business continuity services and cloud and infrastructure services, or contact ICT Shift about replacing a legacy firewall. These services do not constitute ongoing VirtualPF product support.
